Childrens Swimming Lessions Criteria
Level 1
- Enter the water in a safe manner unassisted
- Blow bubbles
- Put full face in the water for 5 seconds
- Float on back without floats
- Float on front without floats
- Jump into pool unassisted
- Kick on front – no floatation device
- Kick on back – no floatation device
- Front Crawl arms – 1 width of the pool – no stopping
- Back Crawl arms – 1 width of the pool – no stopping
- Streamline push & glide (no kick)
- Kicking on front – no floatation device
- Kicking on back – no floatation device
- Basic breaststroke leg kick (bend, open, close) on back
- Pick up sinker from bottom of pool
- Jump into deep end of the pool
Level 3
- Front crawl arm action and leg kick without floatation device
- Back crawl basic arm action and leg kick without floatation device
- Breaststroke legs and arms without floatation device
- Butterfly undulation (dolphin kick)
- Kicking on side (one arm extended and one arm down by their side holding float and breathing)
- Bilateral breathing with a float
- Front Crawl – Push, glide and kick – transition, breathing and timing
- Back Crawl – Push, glide and kick – transition, breathing and timing
- Breaststroke – Body position, timing and breathing – Full Stroke for 10meters
- Butterfly – Leg kick, undulation – 10meters
- Treading Water – for 2mins in deeper water
- Endurance Swimming – 25m Front Crawl followed by 25m Back Crawl
Level 5
- Front Crawl – Push, glide and kick – transition. Breathing and Timing, Advanced practices (bilateral breathing)
- Back Crawl – Breathing and Timing, Advanced practices
- Breaststroke- Body position, timing and breathing – Full Stroke 25meters
- Butterfly – Leg kick on front and back for 25meters
- Tumble turns – On front and back
- Endurance Swimming – 50meters front crawl followed by 50meters back crawl.
N.B. Each child must meet the previous level’s criteria in full to progress onto the next level. (Level 1 has no minimum criteria).
